I’m delighted (and still in slight disbelief) to announce that I’m part of a team who have been designing, writing and rebooting a new version of the classic tabletop RPG Paranoia. We’ll be Kickstarting it on October 24th.

James Wallis, designer of behind Once Upon a Time and Baron Munchausen, head of Hogshead and an industry veteran, has asked the brilliant Grant Howitt (Goblin Quest, One Last Job) and I to help put together this new version, a reboot for a post-Snowden, post-9/11 world, where Troubleshooters are at war with terrorists. Just like we always have been.

It’s still a game of being barely competent, about screwing over your teammates as you try to weed out traitors and about taking any excuse to kill their clones. We’re still working under the loving gaze of Friend Computer. We’re still all so very safe in Alpha Complex. As the computer says, “Pay no attention to the ongoing explosions, citizen. They are not getting closer to you, they are merely increasing in size.” Or, as James put it, “It’s THX1138 meets the Marx Brothers, in a world where a paranoid machine is watching everything you do.”
